Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Many people often struggle with their purpose in life. Often times we go through different phases of knowing what we think we want to do in life, but as time goes on it constantly changes. As children we choose careers of those we may idolize or consider to be heroes in our lives. By our middle school years, we tend to choose something that appeals to what we currently like to do. As we move into high school years we tend to begin looking into what is considered a “popular” or “needed” field, or choosing what others say they see in us. We grapple for a number of years in trying to do what either we want or what others want for us, but what about what God wants?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with pursuing a goal, dream or career that we feel will suit us, but as children of God we should never seek them without God. Why? Well because He is the one who provided the gifts, talents and abilities we possess. These things aren’t imparted to us for us to do what we feel, but to fulfill God’s purposes for our lives, and to bring Him glory. What we possess and have the ability to manifest in our lives, cannot be accomplished apart from God. The scripture reminds us that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. God created us to manifest His will and His purpose, not our own; therefore we cannot possibly fulfill His plan for our lives without him.
What’s so great about God is, not only does He place His gifts in us to manifest His will and purpose, He also allows them to stir up in us and create passions that will lead us to the right path. The key is to always lay our passions and desires before Him so that we know how they fit into His plan for our lives. This is key because more often than not God gives us multiple gifts and if we are not surrendered to Him, we can make the mistake of choosing a supporting gift as our main purpose for life and be out of God’s will for our lives.
So when considering what to do with your life, know that God has a perfect plan for you, that you were created to live not just exist and that when you follow after His plans it will lead to a good work!
